Our Story
From Tradition to the Present An Ebru Journey
Rooted in Konya Meram, this journey reflects a timeless art form shaped on water, quietly extending into the present.

Sema Baranok Yılmaz began her journey in Ebru art in 2007 at Destegül Fine Arts Centre, studying traditional Turkish arts under Sadreddin Özçimi.
In 2011, she expanded her artistic perspective by studying Hüsn-i Hat, Islamic calligraphy, with Fevzi Günüç.
She later continued as an instructor at Destegül Fine Arts Centre, received her traditional certification in 2017, and founded Atölye Sanata Münhasır in January 2021.
Today, she continues to teach Ebru through in-person classes in Konya Meram, online lessons, exhibitions and workshops.
Artistic Philosophy
Our aim in teaching Ebru is not only to pass on technique, but to help students understand the language of water, move with patience, and experience the process itself. We create space for each student to develop their own authentic expression.
Respect for Tradition
We preserve the core techniques of Ebru while interpreting them through a contemporary perspective.
Individual Journey
Each student progresses at their own pace, following their own path. There is no comparison.
Patience and Stillness
Ebru cannot be rushed. Each piece emerges through attention, rhythm, and quiet focus.
Living Tradition
We carry forward a traditional art form, allowing it to evolve within the present.
Teaching Approach
Before Technique, Understanding
In our lessons, we begin by observing the behaviour of water. Understanding how pigments move across the surface, feeling the pressure of the brush, and sensing the rhythm of movement — these come before technique. Theory and practice evolve together in every session.
Materials & Preparation
Introduction to the tank, pigments, and materials.
The Language of Water
Observing surface tension and pigment movement.
First Patterns
Creating initial designs using Battal and comb techniques.
Deepening Practice
Floral motifs and advanced compositions.
The Atelier
The Atelier Experience
Our atelier is a calm and focused working space, equipped with traditional tools, natural pigments and the Ebru tank. Here, not only the artwork but also the perception of time begins to shift. Poyraz and Pera, the two distinctive residents of the atelier, add their own character to the space — sometimes quietly accompanying, sometimes becoming the centre of attention.
